Summer Songs

So we're packing up
Singing Summer songs
Going on the road again
To where we don't belong
She said "You won't stay,
So how long you gone?"
"Until the Summer fades
And our shoes are worn away
We'll be busy most nights
Singing Summer Songs."

She looks me up and down
She says " 'til they're worn away?"
"Yeah don't you know?
We'll be walking most days
Playing to those kids
Who've seen the light,
Walking away from the darkness
And out of it's sight."
Away from the darkness
Away from the darkness

We used to sing our songs
When we were kids
But we fell apart
Thrown to the wild wind
Taken to darkened corners
Or bright sunny airs
No one could have guessed
The beginning of all of our cares.
But we'll be busy most nights
Singing Summer songs.
